Trail Description

Cambie Creek Loop via Fat Dog Trail is one of those low-stress, high-reward routes in E.C. Manning Park that locals keep coming back to. At 4.7 km with about 177 m of gain and a max elevation around 1410 m, it’s an easy loop that usually takes around an hour and a half, making it a solid choice for a half-day outing or a warm-up before bigger missions.

The loop rolls gently through forest with a few more open sections where you get that classic Manning Park feel and start scanning the clearings for wildlife. People ride it from Cold Spring Campground, hike it, snowshoe it, and even use it as a mellow approach for a snowboard lap back down, so expect a well-defined track and a steady, easy grade the whole way.

Recent reports say Cambie Creek Loop via Fat Dog Trail is in good shape, with just one small deadfall and a bit of mud near the top, plus wide-open sections where you’ll want to stay bear-aware even if most days are quiet. In winter, this is a favourite snowshoe trail in Manning Park: usually well packed, easy to follow after fresh snow, and often doable in just boots when the track is firm, though snowshoes make life easier when it’s soft. Check seasonal road access to the trailhead, watch avalanche forecasts if you’re venturing onto steeper slopes to snowboard, bring proper winter gear even on “easy” days, and keep dogs leashed as required in the park.
