Trail Description

Silver Peak and Isolillock Peak near Hope, BC is one of those routes that looks reasonable on paper and then smacks you in the legs in real life. At 6.8 km with 828 m of gain up to around 2035 m, this out-and-back is steep, rough, and slow going, which is why it’s rated very difficult and often takes close to 7 hours despite the short distance.

The hike climbs hard almost right away, with loose sections, roots, and some hands-on moves as you gain the ridge. Once you’re up high, you get big views toward the Coquihalla, surrounding peaks, and deep valleys that make all the effort feel worth it, especially on a clear summer day. The route between Silver Peak and Isolillock Peak can feel exposed and demanding, so this is more of a scrambler’s outing than a casual walk.

Recent reports mention the access gate being locked as of September 2, which can change how close you can drive and add extra road walking, so check current access before you go. The Silver Peak and Isolillock Peak trail is best from July to early September when snow has melted off the upper slopes; outside that window, expect lingering snow, mud, and slower travel. Bring plenty of water, sturdy footwear, and a solid GPX track, start early, and treat this as a full-day mission rather than a quick jaunt from Hope.
