Trail Description

Old Railway Bridge via Ladner Creek Trail is one of those short, punchy hikes near Hope that feels like a little adventure mission rather than a long grind. At only 1.8 km with about 131 m of gain, it’s quick, steep in a couple of spots, and usually wrapped up in under an hour, but the old rail history and canyon setting give it a cool, slightly eerie vibe.

The route climbs through forest and loose rock toward views of the Ladner Creek canyon and the historic railway bridge. The trail is an out and back, so you retrace your steps, and the scree sections can feel a bit sketchy, especially on the way down. The bridge itself and surrounding area are the big draw, but access is restricted and the trestle is not open to the general public.

Old Railway Bridge via Ladner Creek Trail crosses private property, so unless you have explicit permission from the landowners, you should skip this one and choose another hike around Hope. Reports mention loose scree both up and down, so if you do have authorization to be there, solid footwear is a must, and you’ll want to be sure-footed on steep, shifting ground. Recent comments also flag bear activity in the area, so carry bear spray, stay alert, and keep your visit short and tidy if you’re legally allowed to be on the land.
