Wapta Falls
“Recent reports online indicate that the Wapta Falls trail is in great shape overall with beautiful views at the end. Hikers should expect a few small muddy, wet spots and a couple of logs across the path, but the route is completely doable. Arriving early is recommended as parking can be limited.”

Trail Description
Wapta Falls is a relatively short forest hike in Yoho National Park, ending beside the broad Kicking Horse River waterfall. The standard summer outing is approximately 4.6 km return and is generally easy, although the descent near the falls and the climb back require more care than the gently graded approach.
From the established Wapta Falls trailhead, follow the signed forest trail toward the river. The approach gives way to descending terrain near the waterfall viewing area. Use designated viewpoints and follow posted signs rather than informal tracks toward the water; return to the parking area by the same route.
Allow about 1 h 30 min for walking, with additional time for viewpoints and photography. Wear footwear with reliable traction, carry water and weather protection, and expect roots, mud, and slippery spray-wetted surfaces. Keep clear of the river, unstable banks, and waterfall edges, carry accessible bear spray, and keep dogs leashed. Check Parks Canada conditions and seasonal road access before leaving; snow and ice can substantially change the outing.
