Little Qualicum Falls
“Recent reports online indicate the south side of the river provides very easy walking with gentle slopes. However, the north side features root-covered sections that may pose a challenge for hikers who are less steady on their feet. Sturdy footwear is recommended for navigating the roots safely.”

Trail Description
Located near Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, the Little Qualicum Falls trail offers a scenic journey through the lush coastal rainforest of Little Qualicum Falls Park. This 3.5 km loop features a modest 86 m elevation gain, making it an accessible and family-friendly outdoor destination. Hikers are immersed in a classic Pacific Northwest forest ecosystem characterized by towering trees, moss-covered ground, and the soothing sounds of cascading water throughout the journey.
The route experience is defined by continuous, picturesque river views and multiple dramatic waterfall lookouts. Traversing a well-maintained surface of packed dirt, gravel, and wooden bridges, the trail guides visitors along the edge of a deep river gorge. The circuit takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete, providing numerous viewpoints where hikers can stop to admire the impressive upper and lower falls as the river plunges through the rocky canyon.
This trail is ideal for hiking year-round, with the waterfalls flowing most dramatically during the wet spring and autumn months. Practical preparation includes wearing sturdy footwear with good traction, as forest paths can become slippery when wet. Dogs are welcome on the trail but must remain on a leash at all times to protect the surrounding park environment and local wildlife.
